Shortbox Showcase #004

FEEDBACK!  Professor Alan and Emily dig through the e-mailbag, and reply to the (mostly) overwhelmingly nice things that our (mostly) overwhelmingly nice listeners said. Many thanks are given to those who have helped us along the way, and many topics are revisited. We talk for too long about US 1, and Sue Grafton's novels are discussed ... in the Shortbox.

We would love to have your feedback on this episode!

  1. Gratuitously shameless plug here, but if you enjoy U.S. 1, you might get a kick out of our current project at my blog The Super Saturday Short-Lived Showcase. :)

In terms of the "interlinked mini-series" structure, I really dig how books like Hellboy/B.P.R.D. and Atomic Robo work it, especially given the big jumps back and forward in time they take. Any ongoing series should be a mix of things. Sprawling stories, one-off tales, mini-series arcs. Writers should use the entire inventory of options instead of just falling into one, even though some do one better than others. Ultimately, I love it when I don't always know what type of story I'm next in for until I'm into it.
